Tai Chi Push-Hands

4 ounces can move 1,000 pounds

Push-hands is a study we undertake after we have a foundation in the basic principles of Tai Chi.

We attempt to unbalance our partner by applying the Tai Chi principles, using sensitivity and giving up brute strength.

This is truly a meditative experience as we must give up analytical thought and respond in the present moment.

As it is our goal to not use force, it requires profound study and perseverance. It is one touchstone in our ability to use Tai Chi as a method of self-defense. Key lessons to remember:

Don’t resist – Don’t push into resistance
A fly landing on the body should set it in motion
Use mind, not force
